About Me

Dr. Barbara Knox, MD, is a professor of pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine , Jacksonville, and a Child Protection Team physician for the UF-First Coast Child Protection Team. Barbara Knox MD is the principal investigator of multiple grants and contracts as well as the fellowship director for the Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship and the Child Abuse Pediatrics/Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Dr. Barbara Knox received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She completed a residency in general pediatrics and adolescent medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She then completed a fellowship in Child Abuse Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Dr. Barbara Knox is board-certified in both general pediatrics and child abuse pediatrics. She has consulted with federal law enforcement agencies regarding violent crimes against children for many years.
Areas of research interest for Dr. Barbara Knox include child physical/psychological torture as a form of child abuse and sexual torture as a form of child abuse.
Dr. Barbara Knox has published on many topics in child maltreatment, including child torture as a form of child abuse, burns of abuse, abusive head trauma, and is currently conducting research on child torture as a form of child abuse. Dr. Knox is recognized nationally and internationally for her work in child abuse and child maltreatment prevention.
